At this point, I think we’re leaning toward buying a new washing machine. We had to have the repair tech come out again on Monday (I had to take a vacation day) to fix the secondary leak. Only, he kept insisting it wasn’t the washing machine. I called a plumber (aside: I highly recommend DeTemple Plumbing) and he came out (on time) and discovered that the secondary leak was coming from the hoses that run from the water valves to the machine. One would think the appliance repair tech would catch this. One would be wrong.
Last night I decided to do a load of laundry. I was in the kitchen getting ready to make dinner and thought, “shouldn’t the washer be running by now?” I went to the garage and discovered that it was overflowing once again.
I called today and asked them to send a different technician out only to be told they had no other technicians. They are going to refund my money less the service charge for the dishwasher (that he said wasn’t broken – in his defense, I have run it twice since then with no problems).
Sigh.
I used a friend’s Angie’s List account today to research some other repair techs. I found one that looked really promising (88 reviews – almost all grade A). Upon reading, I saw some people that had the same problem as ours. One had the pump replaced for $250; the other was told they just be better off buying a new machine. So, now comes the decision – do I spend what would end up being half of what it costs to buy a new machine on something that is only going to continue to age and possibly break or do I get it fixed?
Luckily, we have a really nice Laundromat about 2 minutes from the house and I don’t mind going down there, with a book, and washing clothes. It’s usually not too terribly busy; especially if you go toward closing time.
That’s been my life this week. One big, wet garage.
